I will carry you in my arms, just like a father carries his child.”
Deut. 1:31
I was talking with one of my co-workers today who owns a farm. On Monday this week she got an urgent call from her husband telling her she needed to come home right away. Apparently one of the bulls had attacked her husband, threw him in the air and when he hit the ground, he lost one of his boots and hit his head. Then the bull turned, saw her 7-year-old daughter standing in the barn near the baby calf and began to charge at her. Her husband saw what was happening and screamed to his daughter to run. And run she did – right to her father. He lifted her into his arms and took off running. In the process she lost one of her shoes.
When her mother reached home, she took her daughter in her arms who was still badly shaken and held her for a long time. Then she asked her two questions. “Did you cry honey?” she asked. “Yes” she replied. “Were you afraid the bull was going to hurt you?” her mother asked? “Oh no!” she said. “I wasn’t scared for me. Daddy had me in his arms. I was afraid the bull would eat my shoe!”
I told my co-worker that this is a beautiful object lesson for us and I wanted to share it. When trouble or danger threatens us, we only need to remember that God, our Father, promises to carry us in His arms. He carries us in His arms of protection, His arms of safety, His arms of comfort in the midst of stormy moments in our lives; His arms of love when our hearts are broken. We have nothing to fear because our heavenly father is there “before we call” and will never leave us or forsake us. Satan can have the shoe…. God holds us safe.
